SUNDAY
Dennis & Jamie will personally meet your party at the pre-arranged
arrival point, and drive you to Villa Miranda in our comfortable
minibuses. A
Champagne
welcome with freshly baked appetizers awaits you overlooking the
Lake
and the surrounding mountains. There will be time for an orientation
stroll before sitting down to the first of Ellie's sumptuous feasts.
MONDAY
This morning we will head across the
Lake,
by boat, to visit our favourite small lake town Varenna. We will wander
along the passarella the lakeside promenade admiring the steep narrow
lanes that lead off the lakeside, the tiny harbour and the charming town
square. Our highly recommended lunch is at Cavotappi - 'the corkscrew'
- where Mario will be more than happy to introduce you to the region's wines.
After lunch we can walk to Italy’s shortest river the Fiumelatte' or
milky river which gushes out of the mountainside for just 6 months of
the year a rare phenomena which tweaked even Leonardo da Vinci's
curiosity! Dinner back at the villa.
TUESDAY
We will spend
the morning at nearby Villa Carlotta one of Lake Como's most elegant
lakeside Villa's famed for its magnificent gardens and notable pieces of
art. We will then return for the first of Ellie's popular buffet
lunches. Following a relaxing afternoon on the property we will take a
short boat ride over to the famous turn-of-the-century resort town of
Belagio allowing time to peruse the shops wander the steep alleys before
taking a cocktail then dinner at a lakeside restaurant. We will cross
back to our Villa by boat under the starry sky
WEDNESDAY
At the top of
the lake, heading up the Adda valley to the east is the unique Valtelina
which means one thing only to all Italians - great wine, cheese and
mountain cuisine! This unique river valley is hemmed in on two sides by
steep often snow covered mountains - but a warm breeze and sunny
position allows the miles of terraced vineyards on the north face to
produce an incredibly elegant expression of Nebbiola which has both
surprised and excited Dennis. We will visit one of our favourite
locations for a tasting and go in search of the great cheese. Our
suggested lunch spot is known throughout the region for its local
mountain fare. Dinner will be back at the house with Ellie.
THURSDAY
After a
longer day out on Wednesday we will stay local and visit some of the
charming villages near to home. Ellie will prepare the second of her
buffet lunches before a relaxing afternoon and a chance to visit the
boat museum behind our Villa with a fascinating collection of boats that
have plied the lake over the centuries. We will drive up into the
mountains behind the villa for our dinner out in one of the local
mountain villages.
FRIDAY
We will take
a boat cruise down to the town of
Como
at the base of the western arm of the lake. We will pass many a famous
Villa en route before arriving at our suggested restaurant for lunch.
In the afternoon there will be time to explore the town and Jamie will
guide you around Como's magnificent Cathedral. We will take the fast
boat home allowing plenty of time to pack before the last of Ellie's
dinners.
SATURDAY
The end of the week and your party will be driven to their pre-arranged
departure point after a good breakfast.
The above is
